| FOOTBALL
IS GOOD FOR YOU |
|
Why
should children play football? Throughout training one evening a week and
playing matches, children will get plenty of healthy exercise and learn the
basic skills that will make them into good players. Playing football also
increases their co-ordination and balance. But it is the social effects you'll
really notice. At Vikings, they can come along and play with their friends, but
they will also make new friends and they'll be part of a team. Teamwork is at
the heart of what we do. They learn to trust each other's strengths and they
get recognition from the other players for their own hard work and skills.
Being part of a football team really builds children's self-esteem and
confidence. They learn to be sporting - learning to lose is as important as
learning to win.

| THE
CLUB |
|
Vikings is
a friendly, family football club with almost 200 players from ages 5 to 15.
Yes, we want to win things, but not at all costs. We don't shout and scream at
the kids and we don't tell the children that they're not good enough to play
for us. If they come to training, then they'll play in the team. The club's
values and goals are as follows:
To
ensure children receive a fair chance, regardless of ability
-
To provide a positive learning environment in which
children can develop their football skills
-
To ensure the children have fun, enjoy themselves and
develop a love for football
-
To develop the social skills of the children
-
To develop the skills of the coaching staff on a
continual basis
Experience
shows that the teams we build still win trophies, but we win friends along the
way and the kids play the game in the right way.

| QUALIFIED
COACHES |
|
We're
volunteer parents, but the club encourages us to develop our skills too. The
coaches that will look after your children are fully FA Qualified. They're also
trained in Emergency First Aid and Child Protection. Parents are encouraged to
get involved and help - either on the training pitch, on match days or with the
paperwork.

| GIRLS
& BOYS |
|
Did you
know that, in England, more girls play football than any other game? And,
because it's the Number One sport of choice for girls, Vikings are keen to get
more girls involved in the club. Up to the age of 10, girls and boys play in
mixed teams (and the girls more than hold their own). From age 11, girls and
boys play in separate teams.
